Every fall, geese and other waterfowl follow their ancient migration paths — called flyways — south to reach their wintering destinations. Goose hunting season starts in October and runs through February in most states, but early season can start even sooner.
Having the right hunting gear with you can maximize your time in the field for early goose season and give you the best chance of a productive hunt. If you're looking to up your goose hunting game, here's some gear to help you bag the limit this season.
1. Zero-Gravity Layout Blind
Forget fumbling around with outdated blinds. With the Zero-Gravity Layout Blind all you have to do is slip your arms through the backpack shoulder straps, hike into your spot, flip it out and peg it down using the heavy-duty threaded ground stakes.
Inside the 24" x 56" zippered cockpit is a suspended chair design to keep you off the ground and comfortable in all conditions (along with a padded headrest). Peggable flared out sides — and plenty of stubble straps — help you to maintain a low profile, eradicate shadows and sharp corners, and give you extra room for gear storage. The floorless design makes cleanup easy: once you're done for the day, all you have to do is fold it up and head home!
2. Legend Layout Blind
If you need total protection from the elements, the Legend Layout Blind has all the design perks of the Zero-Gravity; with the addition of a fully-enclosed waterproof floor, a rear end zippered storage pit and a concealing mesh face screen to keep a watchful eye on your target. As with the Zero-Gravity, optional lightweight and non-reflective snow covers are available to attach over the canopy.
3. Backpack Blind Bag
If you're a fanatic for being organized (or simply have a shed-load of gear to carry) the multifeatured Backpack Blind Bag is guaranteed to have enough storage options for your needs. This bag is ready for duty at all times: a dual-purpose rigid base forms one of the two main compartments and ensures the bag is freestanding. Additional support is provided by the center aluminum stay.
Inside you'll find stash-points for your hydration pack, nine shell loops, a removable LED light, a separate fleece lined compartment at the top for your cell phone or optics, and a rollaway gun boot at the bottom.
On the outside there's a hard sunglass case, load stabilizing compression straps, a bottle holder, choke tube holders and game totes that stow away into stretchy pouches on the shoulder straps. So whether you're on the move or simply laying low in the blind, you can always count on quick and orderly access to your gear.
4. Water-Shield Backpack
No matter what the weather throws at you, trust the Water-Shield backpack to keep your gear protected. Hardwearing TPU fabric, welded seams, and a YKK Aquaguard Zipper assure maximum water-resistance — even if you're waist-deep in a swamp or being drenched in torrential rain. Slot a map or cellphone into the front side transparent pocket and use them without having to worry about mud or water damage. A top-mounted side release buckle doubles up as a carry handle or a hang point. Other features include six shell loops mounted onto a padded waist belt, shoulder mounted game tote stow points for easy access and two mesh side pockets.
5. 6 Slot Goose Decoy Bag
Constructed from sturdy 600D polyester fabric and an abrasion-resistant mesh bottom, the 6 Slot Goose Decoy Bag is built to endure your hunts year after year. Each slot is 17" deep and 11" wide, offering plenty of room for your decoys with stands. Once loaded, the drawstring skirt secures them into place, protecting your trusted setup whatever the terrain. A removable shoulder strap and a padded carry handle — including two on the side — increases your comfort and efficiency when venturing to and from your spot as well.
